Arizona bank robbery suspect shot on live TV after high-speed chase (video)
The robbery suspects reportedly fired at police officers who arrived at the credit union. Watch video TEMPE, Arizona -- A suspect in an armed robbery of a credit union led police on a high-speed chase that lasted 45 minutes Tuesday before he was shot and killed by officers in an incident that was shown on live TV, reports say. NBC News reports the driver of the Chevrolet SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other suspects who earlier had jumped from the vehicle and attempted to run were taken into custody.  Police responded to reports of a robbery at a credit union just before noon Tuesday, the Arizona Republic reports. Police say shots were fired at officers as they arrived. No one at the credit union was injured. Police then began following the suspects' vehicle in a chase that covered 30 miles.  At the end of the chase, three unmarked police vehicles managed to pin the SUV against a fence. NBC News reports an officer approached the SUV and then opened fire, with the shooting shown on live TV. "We know that he intended to escape at all costs and put anybody in danger," Phoenix police Sgt. Jonathan Howard said during a news conference, according to NBC News. "He already shot at police officers. He's endangered the public for half an hour now as he's driven throughout the city recklessly. It's important to stop him before someone else gets hurt." Phoenix and Avondale police, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and the FBI are investigating the incident, the Republic reports.
