20 Cleveland School District schools close Thursday because of heat
Concerns about the extreme heat led to the closings. CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Anticipation of continued hot conditions in Northeast Ohio has led to the cancellation of classes Thursday for 20 schools in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. The district announced the closings on its website and on Twitter. Northeast Ohio schools closed Thursday because of heat. The schools closed Thursday are Benjamin Franklin, Charles Eliot, Charles Mooney, Collinwood, Facing History New Tech, Garrett Morgan, Iowa-Maple, Louis Agassiz, McKinley, Michael R. White, Newton D. Baker, O H Perry, Patrick Henry, Tremont, Valley View Boys Leadership Academy, Walton, Whitney Young, Wilbur Wright, William Cullen Bryant and Willow. Cleveland Schools dismissed classes early at 10 buildings on Wednesday because of the high temperatures. Several other schools in Northeast Ohio also will be closed today because of the heat. Philly cop shot, wounded while off-duty
An off-duty police officer was shot in the thumb in North Philadelphia late Friday afternoon, police said. The officer was shot just before 4:50 p.m. in the area of 10th and Ogden Streets, police said. He was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital to be treated.
