“Dark Night” movie — inspired by Aurora theater shooting — opened to praise, but should it even exist?
"I wanted to show how people live, and not how people die," said writer-director Tim Sutton.

Movie Review: Tim Sutton’s “Dark Night” sheds little light on Aurora theater shooting
The writer-director made a film that is cinematically striking but also maddeningly superior. We Coloradans tend to be prickly about films that take mass shootings as their “inspiration.”

Several Lakewood students arrested during investigation into threatening bathroom graffiti
A Harding Middle School student and two Lakewood High School students have been arrested during the course of the investigation, but the person responsible for a threatening graffiti message has not been caught. LAKEWOOD, Ohio - A Lakewood middle school student and two high school students were arrested this week in an investigation into threatening graffiti found in a bathroom stall. The graffiti, written in ink on a stall in a Lakewood High School bathroom, threatened a shooting that would make the tragic 1999 Columbine High School shooting look like a "joke" by comparison. It was found on Friday. A high school student was arrested about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a statement sent out Wednesday by Lakewood City Schools superintendent Jeff Patterson. Lakewood police would not give the arrested student's age. The male student faces a charge of inducing panic, police said Wednesday evening. Charges have not been formally filed. Investigators said that he told people that someone brought a gun on Lakewood High School property, but the claim turned out to be false. The claims about the gun came while students were given the opportunity to report tips regarding the graffiti threat at Lakewood High School. The tips came in through a 24-hour hotline set up by the school district, Patterson said. So far, none of the tips have been credible, and no arrests have been made in connection with the threat, Patterson said.  A Harding Middle School student was arrested Monday after making threats against the middle school that referenced the graffiti threat, the statement says. A Lakewood High School student questioned on Monday about a discipline issue was found with a pocket knife. This student was also arrested, and no connection has been found between this student and the graffiti threat. Patterson said in his statement that "at no point were any of our students in danger." Anyone with information about the graffiti threat can still call the 24-hour hotline at 216-227-5311. Parents and students are also asked to continue monitoring social media for potentially threatening messages.  If you'd like to comment on this post, please visit the cleveland.com crime and courts comments section.
