Garfield Heights detectives arrest suspect in restaurant robberies (video)
Detectives have arrested a man who is a suspect in a robbery and an attempted robbery at restaurants in Garfield Heights. Watch video GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio - Detectives have arrested a suspect in a robbery and an attempted robbery at restaurants in Garfield Heights. The man taken into custody Wednesday matches the description of a man involved in robberies at Marco's Pizza and Burger King. Detectives are still working to gather evidence that could link him to those incidents, police said. The man has not been charged in either robbery but is expected to be charged in the purse snatching, police said. Details of that incident were not immediately available. The Aug. 31 robbery at Marco's Pizza and the Sept. 4 attempted robbery at Burger King involved a man in dark clothes covering his face with a white shirt or cloth, according to police reports. Detectives released surveillance video from the Marco's Pizza robbery and are asking the public to help identify the man. Witnesses said a man entered the restaurant just before 8:30 p.m. and confronted a cashier. He showed her a gun in his waistband before he said "I'm not playing, all of it," the cashier told police. The man left the store with approximately $400 from the cash register. He left the area on a bicycle, witnesses said. The man did not take any cash during the attempted robbery at Burger King, according to a police report. The man entered the restaurant just after 9:30 p.m. and demanded a cashier "give him everything." The cashier ignored him because she believed it was a prank. When she realized he was serious she became too afraid to move. The man, who appeared to be holding a note in his hand, became frustrated and ran out of the restaurant, the report says. Anyone with information is being asked to call the Garfield Heights Police Department's detective bureau at 216-475-5686. To comment on this story, please visit our crime and courts comments section.
