Cleveland police officers injured in four-car crash while rushing to call
Two Cleveland police officers were injured Thursday while rushing with their lights and sirens on to a call on Cleveland's East Side. CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A Cleveland police cruiser rushing to a disturbance at a liquor store ended up in a four-car crash after someone pulled in front of the cruiser at an intersection in the city's Glenville neighborhood. The two police officers in the cruiser suffered minor injuries. Another driver suffered a knee injury, police said. The crash happened about 5:30 p.m. Thursday on Superior Avenue and East 105th Street. The officer was driving on Superior with his lights and sirens on as he approached the red light. The officer slowed and drove left of the double yellow lines around stopped traffic, police said. Another car on East 105th Street failed to stop for the cruiser and drove into the intersection. The cruiser crashed into the side of the car, police said. The other car bounced off the cruiser and hit the front of a third car that had stopped on East 105th Street for the cruiser. The cruiser spun after the crash and stopped in the intersection. A fourth car driving north on East 105th crashed into the back of the cruiser, according to police. The driver of that car sped off and has not been identified, police said. No arrests have been made.   If you'd like to comment on this story, visit Friday's crime and courts comments section.

Man with syringes and needles in car causes three-vehicle collision; woman and boyfriend bloody each other, then get pulled over: Berea police blotter
Berea arrested an Olmsted Falls man after a car he was driving hit at least one other vehicle and possibly two vehicles. Also, a Cleveland woman with her boyfriend's blood on her shirt was arrested after police checked her license-plate number and determined that her license was suspended. Carol Kovach, special to Sun News  Operating a vehicle under the influence, North Rocky River Drive: An Olmsted Falls man, 62, was arrested at about 12:50 p.m. Nov. 10 after a car he was driving hit at least one other vehicle and possibly two vehicles. A witness called police after seeing the man, in a four-door silver Mazda, driving recklessly while southbound on both Interstate 71 and Ohio 237. The Mazda almost collided with a car the witness was driving. The Mazda slowed, accelerated and slammed into a concrete median. The witness saw the man speed past Sheldon Road and onto North Rocky River southbound. A police cruiser started following the man, who slowed to 25 mph. Police tried to pull over the man's car but he wouldn't stop. The three-car collision occurred on North Rocky River south of Grayton Road. Police found several syringes, needles, a spoon and a plastic bag containing white power in the man's car. Operating a vehicle under the influence, West Bagley Road: A Cleveland woman, 39, was arrested at about 2:30 a.m. Nov. 13 after police checked her license-plate number and determined that her license was suspended. Police saw the woman driving a Ford Focus 50 mph in a 35-mph zone on West Bagley near Karl Street. They stopped her car in the parking lot of Olmsted Auto Sales on West Bagley. The woman's live-in boyfriend, 37, was a passenger in the car. His face was cut and bleeding, and the woman had blood on her shirt. The woman told police that she and her boyfriend, while arguing in a Cleveland bar, punched each other in the face. He denied hitting her. Marijuana possession, West Bagley Road: A Berea man, 54, was arrested at about 8:30 p.m. Nov. 11 after he passed out in the backseat of a limousine, which was parked outside Quarrytown Apartments, 55 West Bagley. The limo driver called police and said he had chauffeured the man from his Quarrytown apartment to a house in Wickliffe. The man was friendly and conversational during the ride. After about 30 minutes in Wickliffe, the driver took the man back to Quarrytown. During the ride home, the man was quiet and made "odd noises." Once at Quarrytown, the driver could not wake the man after trying for 15 minutes. Police tried rousing the man but he only cracked his eyes briefly and mumbled. Paramedics arrived and loaded the man into an ambulance. The man regained consciousness and asked what was happening. He was taken to Southwest General Hospital. Officers then saw a plastic bag containing what looked like marijuana sticking out of the man's pants pocket. The man admitted that he had also been drinking. Operating a vehicle under the influence, West Grand Street: A Berea man, 51, was arrested at about 8:40 p.m. Nov. 13 after police saw him driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck erratically. The man turned from Henry Street onto North Rocky River Drive without signaling. Then his truck went left of center. Police stopped the truck after it turned onto West Grand and into the Berea Beverage parking lot. Operating a vehicle under the influence, Prospect Street: A Berea man, 24, was arrested at about 11:55 p.m. Nov. 11 after police saw his Dodge Ram turn right from Fournier Street onto Baker Street without signaling. The pickup truck also went left of center and swerved to the right. Police stopped the vehicle in the parking lot of True North Shell on Prospect. Driving with a suspended license, West Bagley Road: A South Euclid man, 30, was arrested at about 10 a.m. Nov. 13 after police learned that the owner of the car he was driving did not have a valid driver's license. The man told police the car belonged to his girlfriend. Police checked the man's Social Security number and learned that five warrants had been issued for his arrest, and that his license had also been suspended. Officers found marijuana in the man's backpack.  If you would like to comment on this story, please visit Wednesday's crime and courts comments section.
