Analysis: Trump paints dark picture in defense of travel ban
WASHINGTON — The more Donald Trump tries to build support for his refugee and immigration ban, the darker the world seems to get.In defending his policies barring refugees and curbing immigration, the president is painting an increasingly ominous picture of the danger posed by Islamic extremists. In his speeches, tweets and an imposing new tally of what Trump calls an unreported "genocide" by the Islamic State group, he has raised the prospect of imminent attacks on the United States and cast the debate over safety as a clash between radical Islam and the West.

9/11 attack organizers still haven't been tried: Darcy cartoon gallery
It's hard believe that it has been 15 years since the 9/11 attacks. It's even harder to believe that the top organizers of the attacks, being held at Gitmo, still haven't been brought to justice in trials. CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The gallery above contains some of the 9/11 related cartoons I produced that were first published in The Plain Dealer in the immediate aftermath of the attacks.  It also contains cartoons produced in the years after, on the killing of Osama bin Laden, and the changing political tone of the country, that were published in The Plain Dealer and Cleveland.com    Sadly, the last two cartoons in the gallery are as still relevant today as they were when they first appeared.   It's hard to believe that it has been 15 years since those horrific attacks on the United States that claimed the lives of thousands of our fellow countrymen, women and children.    It's even harder to believe that the top 5 organizers of the attacks, being held at Gitmo, still haven't been brought to justice in trials.   Those detainees include the mastermind of the attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who got Osama bin Landen to back the diabolical plot. Justice for the 9/11 victims has been delayed by competing aims of a civilian and military trial systems.    Congress has repeatedly blocked attempts to place the detainees in the civilian system to face trial on the mainland.   Had they allowed that to happen, the trials would have been completed long ago and the organizers would be on death row or serving life in prison.   As it stands, the earliest trials are expected to begin is 2020.    That is an inexcusable travesty and miscarriage of justice for the 9/11 victims.  With their chronic inaction, the public officials in Washington D.C. have proven themselves to be the last responders.
