Man charged in connection with Lorain Labor Day shooting that left two injured
A Sheffield Township man was arrested in connection with a Labor Day shooting that left two Lorain men injured. LORAIN, Ohio -- A Sheffield Township man was arrested in connection with a Labor Day shooting that left two Lorain men injured. Lorain police officers, with help from a K-9, chased and arrested 29-year-old Alexis Ayala-Cotto, according to police. He was treated at the hospital for dog bites. Ayala-Cotto pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of carrying concealed weapons, tampering with evidence, resisting arrest and other charges, Lorain Municipal Court records show. He is due back in court Sept. 15. Officers responded at 8:43 p.m. to a report of a shooting in the 200 block of East 33rd Street. The investigators found Ayala-Cotto running from the scene, police said. There were no victims at the scene. Both victims went to Lorain's Mercy Regional Medical Center sometime later. A 27-year-old man suffered a gunshot in the back and shoulder, and a 40-year-old man was shot in his abdomen, police said. Both were flown to MetroHealth in Cleveland. An update on their conditions was not available Wednesday. Lorain police are investigating the shooting.
